A look back at PESskillerHD youtube Channel growth over the years

July 2012

About 3 months after the creation of my youtube channel and things were beginning to take off, I had reached 650 subscribers and had just set up the LETSPES channel also. My PES 2012 tutorials helped my channel get some recognition.

April 2013
9 months later and that was the time frame where my channel experienced the most rapid growth, now on 8,500 subscribers and 3.5 million views my channel was well established and just slightly behind josemanu's channel on 10k subscribers which is now at 100k. My bring back the Galacticos series was in full swing and my PES 2013 Skill Moves Tutorial video had gone viral.

Febuary 2014

Fast forward another 10 months and I had hit 13k subs and the channel layout was the same as it currently is now. My most successful uploads in that time frame were my Become a Legend Road to Ballon D'or videos. LETSPES was growing fast around this time and had almost caught up with 12k subs before passing my PESskiller channel out.

The year I stopped playing PES

It was late 2015, I had just finished up my PES 2015 Master League series for my youtube channel which was very underwhelming. I thought my youtube gaming days were behind me so I ignored all of the usual hype for the newest edition of PES and decided not to buy PES 2016.
Looking back over videos now from some of my favourite PES youtubers I started to think that maybe this was a mistake? Maybe this was the year when the series would have a turnaround?
It was the first time since PES 2011 that a skipped out on a PES game. I remember PES 2010 being the final straw before I switched over to the darkside and became a 100% fifa fan. Many may not know this but I uploaded fifa videos back then, from 09-11 it was all fifa content that I used to make until I realized it was no longer for me and seen a gap in the youtube market for PES.
PES 2013 was my favourite in the series but after the disappointment of PES 2014 followed by 2015 which was pretty much a carbon copy I just didn't enjoy making the videos for youtube anymore, the game was no longer fun for me and I also didn't feel it was even worth my while upgrading to a next gen console. You may be thinking why would I come back to PES this year? Well it's because it took me that year (or two) to realize what I was missing, My subscriber count on the channel pretty much came to a dead stop, I was starting to miss the days where I'd put up a skill tutorial and it would rack up 20k views in a week. I'll admit I even became a little jealous seeing how much some other channels have grown (particularly the ones who do fifa/pes comparisons) but it served as inspiration to me. I had always seen the youtube gaming thing as a hobby and a handy bit of pocket money when I was back in school but now it seems as though the tide is changing. There is a place on youtube for PES gamers to make it big, sure we're still 3-4 years behind the fifa gamers in terms of channel growth but with the growing respect throughout the gaming community for PES recently I think it's time we all get stuck in and support the growth of the game and it's youtubers.
So where do I go from here? I think it's about rediscovering that passion I had for the game in 2012/13 where I went a summer without missing a daily upload, where each video required 100% effort and not just a half assed attempt to keep the channel alive. I decided to upload one single PES 2016 video just for channel continuity so I can say to myself "at least there's one PES 16 video in there" I'll embed the video below, nothing spectacular but for PES 2017 I'm bringing my A game back.

Center Back: Puyol

Left Back: Maldini

Left Center Midfield: Ronaldinho

Center Midfield: Rivaldo

Right Center Midfield: Nedved

Left Striker: Ronaldo

Center Forward: Adriano

Right Striker: Shevchenko

Substitutes:

Henry

Crespo

Roberto Carlos

I went on to create these players in PES 2015 to try recreate their glory days at the peak of their abilities

The Best lesser known Players in PES Games

This post is going to highlight some of the lesser known players who I enjoyed using the most throughout my time playing PES games. Some of these players weren't household names but they all had a stint in PES where they could perform just as well as any of the top players in the game.

Goalkeeper: De Sanctis
It was a tossup between Toldo and De Sanctis for the goalkeeper spot but I feel De Sanctis just edged it, he was a lesser known goalkeeper so was somewhat of a hidden gem when I signed him in Master League in PES 2009

Right Back: Maicon
Before his overall rating went astronomically high back in 2011 he was always a player I loved to use in 2009-10, known for bombing up the wing he was possibly my favourite right back to ever use in PES.

Center Back: Durval
I first heard of Durval when using Santos in the PES 2013 demo and he became known to me as the Brazilian Paul McShane. His stats were quite poor, especially his speed yet he was the type of player who proved unexplainably hard to get past.

Center Back: Carvalho
Extremely solid centre back in the old PES games, just a notch below John Terry, relieable from PES 4 - PES 10

Left Back: Armero
First Started using him in PES 2012 with Udinese, his rating rocketed up to 93 in PES 2013 so I continued to use him, nuff said.

Center Midfield: Keita
Barca's forgetten midfielder? He was a poor man's Yaya Toure and actually a very good midfielder in PES 2009

Right Midfield: Arshavin
Impossible to play against in PES 2009 after he signed for Arsenal, his mazing runs were by far his best attribute.

Left Midfield: Piatti
It is not an exaggeration when I say he was better than Messi in PES 2012 despite his modest mid 70s rating. I first heard of him when watching PES 2012 youtube videos which iinspired me to start using him in the game and eventually record the amazing dribbles I performed with him

Attacking Midfield: Recoba
Was at his best in PES 6 feeding laser through balls to Adriano and Inrahimovic at Inter, almost on par with Kaka in his peak and still had excellent passing abilities in PES 2015.

Striker: Saviola
Was the Barca and Madrid super sub striker for many years, I used him a lot in PES 08-11 just when Eto or Raul was tiring I'd pull him off the bench in the 75th minute and nick a goal with him.

Striker: Aubemeyang
My adoration for Aubemeyang in PES 2013 cant be put into words, he was a free agent in the game so I only realized who he was when I sarted Master League Online and was searching for a frontman with pacey stats, needless to say I wasn't disappointed.

Substitutes:

Park Ji Sung
Had freakish Abilities in PES 2008 despite a modest rating, popped up with goals out of nowhere, konami at it again.

Barreto
PES 2011-12 he was was one of the best value for money strikers in the game.

Julio Baptista
PES 5 with Arsenal, making storming runs with the ball from attacking midfield, very physical and difficult to stop.

The video below shows me using these players in the PES league in Master League mode

The player who has been highest rated the most in PES games was Messi, coming first 5 times which is the same amount of times he has won the B'allon Dor.
Ronaldo is in second place with 2 and the only other player to come first was Buffon back in 2010.
Ronaldo was the only player to feature in the top 10 every year.

PES ratings system has been pretty shocking at times especially when it comes to overrating random players and slapping them with an overall in the 88-90 range and the worst rating system was arguably in PES 2014 when the players overall skyrocketed. There is good news for the future though as the ratings in PES 2017 seem to be the fairest and most accurate ones to date.
